STATEMENT OF THE FBI REGARDING THE RELEASE
OF FBI DOCUMENTS RELATED TO DETAINEES IN
IRAQ AND .GU.ANTANAMO BAY
Washington, D.C. — In December 2004, the FBI produced documents in response to a
Freedom of Information Act request related to detainees in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay. In May •
2004, subsequent to disclosures of mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghurayb., the FBI surveyed
its employees who had been at Abu Ghtirayb, and in, July 2004, employees who had been at
:Guantanamo Bay, to determine whether. any employees observed aggressiVe treatment, •
intwogations or interview techniques which were na.cois :W t:hO,' h FBI. policies
guidelines. Of the approximately 500 employees surveyed, a small number responded that they
had observed aggresHve treatment' of detainees. The FBI has and continues to refer relevant
information to 1)0D for appropriate action.
