This is a sworn statement made by a soldier who was present during an alleged incident of abuse at Abu Ghraib prison following a mortar attack and shooting by a prisoner who had a gun smuggled in to him. The soldier states that there was an Iraqi suspect who he saw a Military Intelligence personnel shove and hit because he was suspected to be involved in the mortar attack. He also saw them dragging the suspect and at one point this soldier intervened to stop the aggressive and abusive treatment stop. He also stated that he encouraged the members of his team to also provide statements on what they saw.

A. Yes. there was an E6 who I talked to. I was pissed offat the actions ofMI and.J asked who was in charge. He spoke up and said he was. I told him he needed to get control ofhis people, or I was goingto take the detainees from them and questio~ them myself. He went around to where his people were and said something to them. I do not recall his name. I do not recall what he looked like either. This was all late at night and we were at the Entry Control Point, the old one. Just east of that about ten to 15 yards we had visitation tents set up, that is where this whole event occurred.
Q. Did the MI person ever strike either ofthe detainees?
A. I never saw a punch tIttown; I heard a lot of rustling in the back ofa trUck. I heard a big ruckus as I was
talking to MAl : SFC saw one of them get bit, but I did not. h'-If, b1 c -"

Q. Did you see the detainee's dragged by t.h!ir hands or feet?
A. When they came to get the male prisoner up, they dragged him for about five feet before he could get up to walk on his own. I think he might have been blindfolded at the time and did not know he was even supposed to get up. They were just walking by him and tried to yank him up offthe ground.
