Re: ACLU v. Department of Defense, et al., No. 1:08-CV-01003-RJL
Dear Mr. Jaffer:
This responds to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request
submitted to the Department of Justice and other government entities on April
22, 2008. The Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General
(OIG)created a summary of the interview conducted by the OIG of Moazzem
Begg in connection with our report, "A Review of the FBI's Involvement in and
Observations of Detainee Interrogations in Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, and
Iraq (October 2009, Revised)." The summary was created using OIG entries to
the CaseMap database. Enclosed is the CaseMap summary of the OIG's
interview of Begg. Also enclosed is a digital recording of the interview.
Both with respect to the summary and the digital recording, redactions
have been made by the defendants pursuant to FOIA exemptions 5 U.S.C. ยงยง
552(b)(6) and (b)(7)(C). For these redactions, the text of the summary and the
portions of the recording have been omitted. The bases for the redactions are
shown on the summary, in the margin of the document or on the redaction
itself.
