Dear Mr. Jaffer:
This responds to your Freedom of Infoi 'nation Act (FOIA) request
submitted to the Department of Justice and other government entities on April
22, 2008. The Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General
(OIG)created summaries of interviews conducted by the OIG in connection with
our report, "A Review of the FBI's Involvement in and Observations of Detainee
Interrogations in Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, and Iraq (October 2009,
Revised)." The summaries were created using OIG entries to the CaseMap
database. Enclosed are CaseMap summaries of OIG interviews of the following
individuals: Andrew Arena, Gary Bald, Michael Chertoff, Pat D'Amuro, Alice
Fisher, David Nahmias, Laura Parsky, Bruce Schwartz, Larry Thompson, and
David Ayres. In addition, there are 4 summaries for which the identity of the
interviewees have been redacted pursuant to FOIA exemptions 5 U.S.C. §§
552(b)(6) and (b)(7)(C).
The Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Defense, and various
components of the Department of Justice (including the Federal Bureau of
Investigation) reviewed these summaries and made redactions pursuant to
exemptions (b)(1), (b)(3) [10 U.S.C. § 130(b)], (b)(5), (b)(6), (b)(7)(C), and (b)(7)(E).
For these redactions, the text has been omitted in the enclosed summaries and
the bases are indicated in the margin of the document or on the redaction
itself.
