Dear Professor Bassiouni:
I have received your letter of August 12 to Ambassador Danforth outlining your request. I have forwarded your letter to the appropriate offices at the State Department in Washington, noting the intended dates of your visit. Giver) the immediate nature of your travel to Afghanistan, it may not be feasible for us to provide a full response within the timeframe of your visit.
We understand there may have been some initial confusion about the proper channel for
submitting your request. The correct channel for such requests is through the U.S. Mission to the
United Nations in Geneva. To ensure the timeliest consideration of requests of this nature,
would strongly recommend that you direct future requests to that office.
Sincerely,
Gtr . —PJleoz-.n,
Anne Patterson Ambassador
