i Fingerprinting Effort .
Director,
Since 9/23/03, the FBI-CJIS has fingerprinted, photographed, and DNA'd.1390
Iraqi military detainees. Of these, two detainees had criminal records is the
US for relatively minor crimes. Interestingly, 72 detainees have been printed
twice in Iraq (presumably as they he been moved from, one holding area to
another) and of these 22 used a name on the second submission substantially
different from the name used on the initial submission. This clearly
demonstrates the value of positive identification through fingerprints.
CJIS provides •the results of the fingerprint -Checks back to FBI personnel
in-theater as well as to the Counter Terrorism Division and the Field Office
responsible for the locatiorrof any domestic criminal activity. 'DNA is sent
to the LAB, which also has access to the fingerprints for latent fingerprint
examinations.
Mike Kirkpatrick
ADIC, CJIS
