On June 24, 2004 (Thursday), at approximately 4:45 ,I I
New York Times, San Francisco Bureau; 415-362-
3912 contacted the Sacramento Media .Office and left a message
inquiring if any soldiers returning from Iraq had made any
reports to the Sacramento Field Office -concerning Iraqi prisoner
abuse. On June 25, 2004 (Friday), at approximately 10:30 a.m.,
was contacted by the Sacramento Media Representative
and was advised that the Sacramento Field Office was not aware of

further stated he had reported these incidents to
the appropriate military authorities while in Iraq and after his.
return to the United States after the summer' of 2'003. He added
the Saturday prior to the airing of the 60 Minutes report on .the b7c
Abu Ghraib Prison abuse, he was telephonically contacted by U.S.
Army Criminal Investigative Division(CID) .agents from Fort Hood,
Texas and inquired about his allegations while in.Iraq. During
. the call, CID agents advised that there .were no reports
concerning his allegations.

'came into the.Sacramento Field Office and provided
the follOwing:
'stated that while assigned on'active duty to the
!National Guard. I IM.litary Intelligence Battalion'
(MI/BN), he was deployed to Samara,
Iraq. He was reassigned to the MI/BN,- as a
counterintelligence agent,. While with the MI/EN,
observed numerous physical abuse incidents of Iraqi civilian ,
detainees conducted in an Iraqi Police Station in Samara, drag.
He described that. such abuses included strangulation, beatings, .
placement of lit cigarettes into the detainees ear openings, and •
unauthorized interrogations. He added that he was aware. that the
members of his team were not"trained to conduct interrogations.

URGENT REPORT
an individual did, in fact, make a complaint with Sacramento FBI
Office concerning Iraqi prisoner abuse.
The Sacramento Division is continuing to interview b6
and will forward FBIHQ all details of his interview in future
communications. Investigation in Sacramento is . continuing.
