following:


Shelter, protection, accountability and sustainment of detainees.


Facility and detainee security


Detainee tracking and accountability


Manage detainees while in detention


Debrief intelligence personnel on detainees' behavior.

Doctrinal MI responsibilities in detainee operations include the following:

Receive intelligence collection taskings.


Screen detainees.


Interrogate detainees


Exploit captured documents


Prepare reports


Debrief guards on prisoners' behavior upon their return to the facility

Shared responsibilities include the following:

Treat prisoners in accordance with The rules of Land Warfare, law, orders and the Geneva Convention


Report actual or suspected violations of the rules of Land Warfare, law, orders and the Geneva Conyention.

Doctrinal Command and Control Responsibilities for Military Police

MP unit commanders operate an Internment/Resettlement (IR) facility. They are responsible for the safety, security, and well-being of all personnel within the facility.


Provide command, staff planning, and supervision of I/R operations performed by assigned and attached elements.


Provide command and control, administrative, and logistics support.


Provide operational control of attached units.

Doctrinal Command and Control Responsibilities for Military Intelligence
• MI command responsibilities are specific to the screening and interrogation of Detainees.
