1. (U) Signficant Activities
RFIs

o Significant points from the brief to the SECDEF on 5/12/04
o Provided the scope and methodology of the visit, major recommendations to LTG Sanchez, and a series of conclusions garnered from the trip.

o SECDEF appeared to understand that the teams time at Abu Ghraib was just a small portion of a country-wide assessment of both US detention operations and CJTF-7 support to the Iraqi Penal system.

o SECDEF was particularly interested on whether the team had observed any detainee abuse or evidence of indiscipline at Abu Ghraib.

o The team did not observe any abuse or overt evidence of indiscipline.

o The briefing made it clear that the other Battalions within the 800th MP Bde
embraced their missions, and were doing a good job.

o Briefly discussed the status of ongoing investigations, and that the witness
statements in the 15-6 could lead to additional CID criminal investigations.

o A member of the SECDEF's party indicated that the Station Chief in Iraq may have obtained some new pictures in that past day or two.

2. Current Operations Seven Day Focus (Close Battle)
o Will ensure CID agents in country link up with the Station Chief and determine if new
pictures have surfaced in Iraq.

3. Furture Operations Long Range Focus (Deep Battle)
o Review I/R policy upon completion of the IG report

o Working with the G3 to infuse 31 E Correction Specialist into future rotations

o Activating an I/R Battalion and I/R Companies in FY 05/06

o Recommended assign 31 Es to FS for UEx and UEy HQs staff for compliance
inspections
