This email from JoAnn Dolan forwards a letter received by the U.S. Mission from an attorney representing a Guantanamo Detainee. The letter requests that the detainee be given access to counsel and to have the charges and legal justification for holding him set forth. It also informs the U.S. that litigation has been filed in the UK concerning the detention and handling of the Guantanamo detainees.

CWG-PM- Our Ambassador received the following letter from the law firm representing!-!(currently detained in Cuba) and his mother. B7(C) The operational parts are:

• "Our client is extremely concerned that she has recently recieved a message from her son, written in April, which indicates he is not receiving any of her letters. She has written more than thirty-two letters to him, most of which have been sent through the U.S. Government, but it appears these are not being passed on to him.
Our client also continues to want her son to have access to a lawyer
and
remains extremely concerned at his unlawful detention without being
given
such access or due process or being charged with any offence or told
what
will happen to him. This is all in gross violation of international
human
rights law."

The law firm, Christian Fisher, has also brought a case in the UK
courts
concerning our handling of detainnees.

Embassy London would appreciate any information that can be included
in a
written reply to the law firm specific tol-'letters, and also
more
generally on the state of our plans for the detainees.

Thank you for your help,

Damian Leader
Embassy London
