NELSON THANKED JETTOU FOR MOROCCO'S
COOPERATION SINCE 9/11 AND FOR THE GOOD RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
MOROCCAN SECURITY AND THE US. HE SAID 9/11 HAD UNDERSCORED
THE IMPORTANCE OF BROAD COOPERATION AGAINST TERRORISM, AND
MOROCCO'S SUPPORT HAD BEEN PARTICULARLY HELPFUL. THE MAY 16
ATTACKS IN CASABLANCA HAD ALSO SHOWED THAT NO COUNTRY WAS
IMMUNE FROM TERROR. JETTOU AGREED, LAMENTING THE
ASSASSINATION OF SWEDISH FM LINDH IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.

NELSON SAID HE HAD COME TO RABAT TO THANK
MOROCCO FOR ITS FRIENDSHIP AND ASSISTANCE AND HOPED IT WOULD
CONTINUE. IT WAS-ALL THE MORE IMPORTANT FOR THE US AND
MOROCCO TO CONTINUE THEIR PARTNERSHIP IN LIGHT OF THE ONGOING
THREAT OF TERROR.

AS A RESULT OF THE MAY 16 ATTACKS IN CASABLANCA. JETTOU SAID

INTERIOR DURING 9/11. JETTOU SAID HE HAD BEEN VISITING
CHICAGO ON 9/11 AND WAS NAMED MINISTER OF INTERIOR SHORTLY
AFTER HIS RETURN TO MOROCCO, ON SEPTEMBER 21.
