This office was notified by the Provost Marshal Office, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ironhorse, 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Tikrit, Iraq, APO AE 09323 of the death of a detainee, Mr AHMED, at the Division Central Collection Facility (DCCF), Tikrit, Iraq, APO AE 09323. Investigation established probable cause to believe Mr AHMED died of natural causes when it was determined his death was a result of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease. Further, this office received the Final Autopsy report from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology(AFIP), which did not change the cause or manner of death. (CIHTI) Characteristics of the Scene: Room #2 at the DCCP was a one story, brick constructed room, utilized as a holding/sleeping cell for Iraqi detainees. The room was located on the south wall of the DCCP Building. The room was surrounded on the east and west side with similar style rooms with the north side facing a fenced in area utilized for the detainees to walk around. Condition of the Scene: Room #2 at the DCCP was found to be in good order. The room was an open area with numerous sleeping mats and blankets laid out along the edges of the walls. The room was approximately 20' by 20'. Located along the west wall were a series of eight sleeping mats with blankets on top of the mats. Located along the east wall were a series of three sleeping pads with blankets on top of the mats. The room further contained clothing and religious materials by each detainees sleeping area. Environmental Conditions Of The Scene: At the time of the crime scene examination the outside temperature was approximately 65 degrees Fahrenheit, which consisted of clear skies. The inside temperature was approximately 60 degrees Fahrenheit. _ -. Factors Pertinent to Entry and Exit: There was one E/E into the room, and it was located in the north wall. For security purposes the door had been removed from the E/E so the detainees could be observed at all times. Entry could be gained by all the detainees living in this building and by military personnel working at the facility. There were no signs of a struggle inside of the room. Crime Scene Documentation: A crime scene sketch was prepared, and photographs of the scene were exposed using an Olympus "Camedia" D-460 digital camera. (See Sketch and Compact Disk for details) Collection of Evidence: Nothing of evidentiary value was collected. Search for latent Impressions: Due to the nature of the offense a search for latent impressions would neither prove nor disprove the offense. Search Beyond the Crime Scene: A search beyond the scene failed to reveal anything of evidential value.
