L PURPOSE:
To establish Detention Hospital policy

interventions. regarding the initial evalustion of detainees and
erventions to trent potential belminthlic infections in the detainee population.
PROCEDURE:
1.
After review of data available found in references (a) and (b) it is reasonable to expect that a number of the detainees will arrive at Detention Hospital with helmintic infections. It is also reasonable to expect that treatment of these helminthic infections may benefa the general health of the detainee population. The
potentialimprovement in nutritious! MOS could improve wound healing and ability to resist
infections. Therefore, all detainees will be treated for the potential of helfninthic infections. Detainees will have stool collected for ova and parasite screening prior to treatment in order to better assess the epidemiological validity of
this treatment protocol.
2.
Treatment for potential helminthic infections will consist of a single dose.of 400mg
of oral albendazole.
3.
AU detainees will be requested to provide a stool sample for screening for ova and
parasites. If the detainee is
unable to provide a sample. processing will continue. The
screening for ova and parasites is not to collect clinical data on the specific detainee.The screwing of the stool specimens for ova and parasites, collected front the subset
of detainees able to provide a stool sample, are intended to .validation of the treatment protocol. . provide epidemiologicla

4. Results of the screeninp for ova and perukes will be maintained in a database by the

infections.
